PG&E

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is one of the largest utility companies in the United States. Based in Oakland, California, PG&E’s primary business is the transmission and delivery of energy—natural gas and electric service—for approximately 16 million customers throughout central California.

When PG&E relocated its headquarters from San Francisco to the 28-story 300 Lakeside Tower building in Oakland in 2020, the 1960s-era high rise required significant updates to support modern technology systems. PG&E’s workplace and real estate team trusted Teladata to coordinate and project manage work to implement audiovisual, IT infrastructure, and security systems throughout the entire 3-year retrofit project.

After conducting a discovery session and crafting a comprehensive report of our findings,  recommendations, and budget for IT infrastructure, audiovisual services, and security implementation support, the Teladata team helped develop the technology requirements, scope of work, and design.

We also helped evaluate the necessary vendors to complete the work efficiently while navigating equipment supply challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The multi-phased project enabled PG&E teams to move into their new facility in stages, keeping the building live while teams implemented workplace technology on each floor.

Meeting PG&E’s uncompromising security standards required consistent and dedicated project management from Teladata. Because the building housed two tenants aside from PG&E during the renovation, Teladata coordinated project teams strategically, keeping existing systems and common areas open while implementing new card readers, security cameras, turnstiles, and more to meet PG&E’s standards.

We kept the project organized by conducting weekly meetings and acting as a liaison between construction, facilities, and IT teams. The Teladata team prioritized consistent, accurate communication throughout the project’s duration, ensuring all parties had the information, equipment, resources, and time to meet deadlines and deliver excellence.

After work on the new headquarters facility wrapped, PG&E engaged Teladata on another project, trusting the workplace technology design to the Teladata team. We’re leveraging and building upon the standards documentation created during the headquarters project, ensuring technology continuity across PG&E’s locations for seamless, continued operations during construction.
